The process is simple: pay $30 online, and a pharmacist will contact you. If clinically appropriate, your certificate is issued on the spot. If the pharmacist is unable to issue your certificate, you'll receive a full $30 refund.

How it works

1. Pay online $30, no hidden fees. You can also pay with Afterpay (4 payments of $7.50).
2. Choose your store Select Click & Collect at checkout and pick your preferred Chemistworks location.
3. A pharmacist will contact you Complete a brief consultation with one of our pharmacists. No appointment needed, a pharmacist will contact you.
4. Receive your certificate If clinically appropriate, your Absence from Work Certificate is issued the same day.

What conditions are covered?

Our pharmacists can issue certificates for a range of minor, self-limiting conditions, including:

• Cold and flu
• Gastro and stomach upsets
• Migraine and headaches
• Back pain, strains, and minor injuries
• Period pain
• General unwellness
• Carer's leave situations (e.g. caring for an unwell family member)

All certificates are subject to the pharmacist's professional assessment. For complex or ongoing conditions, a GP visit may be more appropriate.

Is a pharmacist certificate accepted by my employer?

In most cases, yes. Under the Fair Work Act, employers can accept evidence of illness from a pharmacist. Most workplaces and universities accept pharmacist-issued absence certificates for personal leave (sick leave) and carer's leave. If you're unsure, check with your employer or education provider before purchasing.

What's the difference between this and a GP medical certificate?

A pharmacist-issued Absence from Work Certificate covers minor, self-limiting conditions. A GP medical certificate can cover a broader range of conditions and may be specifically required by some employers for extended absences. For straightforward sick days due to a cold, flu, gastro, or similar, a pharmacist certificate is a faster, more affordable alternative.

What if the pharmacist can't issue my certificate?

If the pharmacist determines that your condition falls outside the scope of a pharmacist-issued certificate, you'll receive a full $30 refund. The pharmacist may recommend you see a GP instead.

Can I get a certificate for past days?

Pharmacist certificates are generally issued based on the pharmacist's assessment at the time of your consultation. If you need a certificate backdated, discuss this with the pharmacist during your consult, they'll advise what's possible within their professional guidelines.

Is my health information kept private?

Absolutely. All consultations are conducted privately and your health information is handled in accordance with Australian privacy legislation. Chemistworks pharmacists are bound by the same professional confidentiality obligations as all registered health practitioners.
